Rugumayo banishes playoff loss, beats Kibirige for Lugazi title

Ronald Rugumayo captured the Pearl of Africa series championship at Lugazi Hills Golf & Country Club, earning redemption against Marvin Max Kibirige. The South Africa-based professional had fallen to Kibirige during a February playoff at UGC. Rugumayo faced adversity on the seventh hole when he recorded a double bogey while Kibirige achieved a birdie. This three-stroke swing opened opportunities for competitors Rodell Gaita Taddeo and Grace Kasango. The champion recovered by sinking a decisive birdie on the 15th hole.

Rugumayo collected 3.8 million shillings from the 20 million professional prize fund. His victory provides valuable course experience ahead of September's Uganda Open at the same venue. The inaugural POA series has produced unique winners across all venues for both amateur and professional divisions. Organizers plan to expand the 2026 calendar with a fourth course and implement a merit-based order system. Uganda Golf Union's Dr. Jackson Were praised for tournament management and acknowledged Lugazi Hills' preparation for the upcoming national championship.
