Security Guards Demand Wage Law Must Be Enforced

Security workers and bosses demand new pay rules take effect right away. Andreas Hausiku from the labor group says guards deserve fair wages after years of poor treatment. The government approved minimum pay at 13.50 dollars per hour starting January 15. Companies must follow these rules or face legal trouble from officials.

Government contracts under 30.30 dollars per hour break labor laws. Hausiku claims the Home Affairs Ministry ignores its job to watch security companies. Officials passed laws back in 1998 but never made rules to enforce them. Bad companies take advantage of workers and hurt honest businesses.

Guards protect banks, schools and government buildings across the country. The ministry refuses to meet with worker groups about these problems. Leaders want officials to create proper rules and punish companies that cheat workers. Security staff need respect as trained professionals who keep people safe.
