Sindiso Magaqa's killer sentenced to 25 years for murder in Pietermaritzburg

A killer who gunned down a top political leader has been locked away for 25 years. Sibusiso Ncengwa admitted he murdered Sindiso Magaqa back in 2017. The court decided his fate on Monday morning at Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court. Ncengwa confessed to shooting the former African National Congress Youth League secretary-general. He also admitted to trying to kill other people and damaging property.

The judge gave Ncengwa multiple prison sentences for different crimes. He received 25 years for murder and another 25 years for planning the killing. Additional sentences covered attempted murder, property damage, and having illegal guns. The court said all sentences would run at the same time, making his total jail time 25 years. This means he serves one long sentence instead of separate ones.

Magaqa died after gunmen attacked him outside a small shop in Umzimkhulu. The shooting happened on July 13, 2017, when killers ambushed his car. Two local councillors were with Magaqa when the attack took place. All three men were shot several times as they sat in their vehicle. The political leader later died from his wounds.

The case has finally reached its end after years of investigation. Ncengwa faced charges for murder, conspiracy, attempted murder, property damage, and weapons violations. His guilty plea helped speed up the court process. The family of Magaqa can find some peace knowing his killer will spend decades behind bars.
