Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 Could Reach 5.00GHz, Promising Record-Breaking Performance

Qualcomm plans to reveal its Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 processor on September 23. The company tests early versions of the chip at speeds above 5.00GHz. These faster speeds could help the processor break new performance records. Qualcomm uses TSMC's advanced N3P manufacturing process for the new chip. The current Snapdragon 8 Elite runs at 4.32GHz for regular versions.

A tipster named Digital Chat Station reports seeing test samples running at the higher speeds. Qualcomm mentioned similar 5.00GHz targets for this processor last year. The company called it Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 during earlier development stages. Engineers continue testing different speed settings before final release. The actual speeds may change based on further testing results.

Qualcomm wants to balance fast performance with good battery life. The company avoids making chips that drain phone batteries quickly. Engineers work to find the right mix of speed and power savings. The new processor uses next-generation Pegasus cores designed at Qualcomm. These custom cores help achieve the higher operating frequencies.

Early benchmark tests show promising results for the new chip. The processor scored 3.8 million points on AnTuTu testing software. This represents a 40.7 percent improvement over the current Snapdragon 8 Elite. Phone makers will use this chip in their premium devices. Customers should expect faster performance from smartphones using this processor.
