South African authorities will implement toll fees at Beitbridge Border Post for vehicles entering the country after Transport Minister Barbara Creecy announced the initiative on Aug. 15, 2025. The South African National Roads Agency Limited conducted stakeholder consultations between Sept. 8 and Sept. 12, and scheduled additional meetings for Oct. 17 to finalize tariff structures.
Motorists currently pay tolls only when crossing into Zimbabwe, but the new system requires separate payments for entry into each nation. SANRAL spokesperson Lwando Mahlasela confirmed that officials will publish final toll amounts after completing consultations with transport operators, freight companies, and commuter representatives.
The dual-toll arrangement affects Africa's busiest land border crossing, which processes billions of rands in trade annually. Regional analysts warn that added costs may alter freight pricing, travel patterns, and small-scale cross-border commerce throughout southern Africa.
