Sri Lanka hires new coaches after Asia Cup failure

Sri Lanka Cricket appointed Julian Wood as batting coach on October 1 for one year after the team failed to advance past the group stage at the 2025 Asia Cup. Wood developed the Power Hitting Program that merges cricket fundamentals with biomechanics, and he has worked with the England and Wales Cricket Board, multiple county teams, and Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League. The organization also hired Rene Ferdinands as the national spin bowling coach on September 30 for two years.

Ferdinands earned his doctorate in biomechanics from the University of Waikato, and he previously worked with the National Cricket Academy of India on performance programs. The specialist in wrist spin has consulted for New Zealand Cricket on performance evaluations, and he will oversee spin training, match preparation, and player development. Sri Lanka begins a three-match one-day international series against Pakistan on November 11 before competing in a tri-series with Afghanistan starting on November 17.
