St. Petersburg Expands Transport Infrastructure with New Projects

St. Petersburg leaders are building major transport projects across the city. Governor Alexander Beglov met with Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin to discuss road repairs and new subway stations. The officials want better transport links to attract more investment and housing development. Last year the city exceeded road improvement targets with 71.8 percent of regional roads meeting standards. Workers delivered 450 new buses to serve residents during 2024.

The subway system continues expanding under the city's development plan through 2030. Ten new metro stations will open over the next six years to serve more neighborhoods. Gorny Institut station began operations at the end of last year for passengers. Putilovskaya and Yugo-Zapadnaya stations should finish construction before 2026 arrives. A new line will connect Pulkovo Airport with the ExpoForum Exhibition Center.

University campuses will gain better subway access when construction teams complete the new routes. The Kirovsko-Vyborgskaya line will extend from Prospekt Veteranov to Prospekt Marshal Zhukov. City workers also repair older stations that need maintenance after decades of service. Ladozhskaya and Chernyshevskaya reopened after major renovations last year. Officials plan to fix 14 total subway stations before the decade ends.
