Students at Atlantic Training Institute became angry Monday. They protested because the school offered a nursing program without proper approval. The National African Students Association led the demonstration. These students claimed the nursing course lacked recognition from important authorities. Many finished the program but never received their certificates.
The school director, Nevin Mureko, said they want to fix the problem. He explained they had started the nursing program, but officials later told them to stop. He thinks this was unfair because many students use this course as a first step toward becoming nurses. The school mentioned that past students completed the same course successfully. They registered with the nursing council without any issues last year.
Mureko blamed the nursing council for not clearly informing everyone about the change. He said the council never put notices in newspapers or properly informed schools. Many students traveled far from northern areas. These students paid rent, transportation costs, and school fees. The school asked the council to accept the current group of students before stopping the program completely.
