Thomas Partey to Leave Arsenal as Contract Expires Monday

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey will depart the club when his contract ends Monday. The 32-year-old player could not reach agreement with Arsenal on new contract terms. The club plans to announce his departure early next week. Partey remained free to negotiate with foreign teams since January. Arsenal and the midfielder held discussions about extending his stay at Emirates Stadium.

Partey played an important role for manager Mikel Arteta during the 2024-25 season. The Ghana international appeared in 52 matches across all competitions for Arsenal. Arsenal has already moved to strengthen their midfield for next season. The club has agreed to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad. Arsenal also works to complete a deal for Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard.

Partey joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in October 2020 for 50 million euros. He made 167 total appearances for Arsenal and scored nine goals. The midfielder originally joined Atletico Madrid in 2012 before making his professional debut. Partey recorded 188 first-team games and 16 goals during his time at Atletico. He won the Europa League in 2018 and reached the Champions League final in 2016.

Partey becomes the second Arsenal midfielder to leave this summer. Jorginho departed for Brazilian club Flamengo earlier this month. The 33-year-old Italian also reached the end of his Arsenal contract. Flamengo signed Jorginho ahead of the Club World Cup tournament. Arsenal continues reshaping their squad for the upcoming campaign.
