People are running away from violence in Mozambique. They're going to nearby Malawi because of fighting over who won the election. A local official named Dominic Mwandira says about 2,000 families have crossed into Malawi since Monday. These families are staying in schools until better places can be found.
The trouble began after an election on October 9. Since then, 248 people have died in the unrest. Just this week, 33 people died when prisoners tried to break free. Many prisoners - over 1,500 of them - escaped from a jail near the capital city.
The fighting started because Daniel Chapo from the ruling party won the election. His opponent, Venancio Mondlane, says the voting wasn't fair. Mondlane left the country but told his supporters to keep protesting. He even says he'll make himself president on January 15.
The protests have caused big problems. People can't get fuel in the main cities of Maputo and Matola because protesters have attacked gas stations. More families keep coming to Malawi to escape the fighting, and officials think the numbers will keep growing.
