Tragic Crash Claims Life of Budaka RDC Hajjati Nabukalu Nusura

Tragedy Strikes on Ugandan Highway.

A top government official died in a car crash on Sunday. Her name was Hajjati Nabukalu Nusura. She worked as the Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Budaka.

The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. on the Jinja-Iganga Highway in Mayuge District, which is in eastern Uganda.

Nusura was riding in a government car—an Isuzu Double-Cabin truck. Khalid Waiswa was driving the car. He tried to pass another vehicle, but he hit a big trailer truck coming from the other direction.

Nusura died right away. Waiswa died later at the hospital.

Nusura was an important leader. She was the head of a women's group called BWELA. She was on her way to an event in Iganga District.

Many people in Uganda are upset by her death. Road accidents are a big problem in the country. Lots of people get hurt or die each year.

In 2023, there were over 18,000 crashes. Close to 4,000 people died. And nearly 13,000 were injured. Experts say the accidents happen because of bad roads, fast driving, and careless passing.

People across Uganda are honoring Nusura's life. They say she worked very hard for her community.

Government leaders praised her loyalty and focus, noting that she served the ruling political party well.

Her friends said she had a long history of helping people. Even when she worked in local government, she did a great job.

The police want drivers to be more careful. They hope it will stop more people from dying on the roads.
