A truck collided with a Honda Fit on the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Highway on Wednesday morning, killing two people and leaving a toddler in critical condition. The crash happened near the March Binding area when the truck struck the smaller vehicle from behind. One victim was a school pupil, and emergency responders transported the injured child to the hospital by ambulance.
Bulawayo Fire and Rescue Services Chief Fire Officer Mhlangano Moyo said crews freed passengers trapped in the wreckage. Initial reports suggest the truck was traveling toward Bulawayo and failed to yield before hitting the Honda Fit, which was coming from Sipezeni. Authorities continue to investigate the collision and have urged drivers to use caution on this highway.
In Harare, police are investigating a separate fatal hit-and-run that occurred on Oct. 24 around 7:50 p.m. along Bulawayo Road near the Kuwadzana roundabout. An unidentified driver struck and killed a pedestrian before fleeing the scene. Officials have asked anyone with information to contact the nearest police station.
