Truck driver found tied and dumped after hijack, cement cargo untouched

A truck driver was murdered and dumped near the border of Makueni and Machakos counties. The twenty-six-year-old victim was found in Kasyelia Village within Tawa, Mbooni Subcounty. Detectives from the DCI offices at Matuu and Tawa police stations are investigating.

The driver had been hauling two hundred fifty-nine bags of cement from Athi River when he was hijacked. His lorry was tracked along the Athi River to Machakos, then toward Masii and Matuu. The vehicle suddenly diverted toward Tawa, and the driver's phone stopped working. The owner reported him missing at Matuu Police Station.

The truck was later recovered abandoned at Kithuia Shopping Centre with the key still inside. A search found the driver's body in a bush with clear signs of violence. His hands were bound behind him and a rope was around his neck. The cement load was still complete and untouched.

Authorities believe he was killed somewhere else before being left at the discovery site. His body is at Tawa Mortuary for an autopsy. The lorry is impounded at Tawa Police Station as the hunt for the hijackers continues.
