YouTube will pay Donald Trump $24.5 million to settle a lawsuit over his account suspension after the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot. The platform banned Trump on Jan. 12, 2021, and restored access on March 17, 2023, when he began his 2024 presidential campaign. Trump will direct $22 million to the Trust for the National Mall to fund construction of the White House State Ballroom.
The former president announced plans for the 90,000-square-foot venue in July, and construction should finish before early 2029. The East Wing ballroom will hold 650 guests, and the private project requires $200 million total. Other plaintiffs will receive the remaining settlement funds. Meta paid Trump $25 million, and X settled for $10 million in separate cases this year.
