UZ Students Demand Urgent Action on Water Crisis

The students at the University of Zimbabwe are very upset. They want the university to immediately fix a big water problem in their dorms. Narshon T. Kohlo speaks for the students. He says the water shortage is so bad that it's not healthy or clean anymore.

The students talked to the university before, and the university said they would make it better. But things only got worse. The toilets won't flush, and the halls smell bad because there's no water.

The students paid a lot of money to live in the dorms—$715 just for a place to stay. So they think the university should at least give them clean water all the time.

Kohlo also said that girls need water the most for their health. And he's worried that the food they get isn't good because there's not enough water.

The students gave the university seven days to fix the problem. If the school doesn't act, the students might protest, and they have the right to do that.

Other students agree with Kohlo. Lina Zuru lives in the dorms and is very frustrated. She says they pay so much, but the university can't give them clean water. Gerald Mukonho says the dorms should feel like a second home. The students just want what they paid for.

The students want the university to hurry up and fix the water problem. They want a safe and healthy place to live.

The university has yet to say what the students want. But the University of Zimbabwe isn't the only place with water problems. Many cities in Zimbabwe, like Harare, are also experiencing water shortages.

The water crisis in Zimbabwe's cities is caused by many things. The pipes and systems are old. More people are moving to cities. The country is having money problems. And sometimes, there's not enough rain.
