A little boy died when flames burned through his home yesterday morning. The fire started around 10 am at a house in Kibiri B Zone near Busabala. The three-year-old named Jeremiah Ssegujja breathed in smoke as he slept. His aunt lived with him because the house owner traveled outside Uganda. Police believe bad wiring caused the fire that destroyed most rooms except the bedroom.
The boy was staying with his aunt, Margaret Namwanje, when the accident happened. They lived in a three-room house that belonged to Faridah Nabukeera. Luke Owoyesigyire from the police said they found possible fire sources nearby. A coffee maker and refrigerator might have sparked the flames. Two rooms burned completely, but the bedroom only had small damage.
Police took the child's body to City Mortuary at Mulago for doctors to check. Officials continue looking into why the fire started. The deputy spokesperson mentioned how the boy probably died from breathing smoke during his sleep. Local helpers tried to stop the fire but arrived late to save the young child. The house sits in the Makindye-Ssabagabo area of the Wakiso District.
