Xbox Game Pass price hike skips Europe, Asia users

The Xbox Game Pass price increase announced on Oct. 1, 2025, will not affect every current subscriber when it takes effect next month. Users on the Xbox Game Pass subreddit shared emails about the price change, noting that subscriptions in certain European countries, including Poland, Germany, Austria, and Italy, as well as in Indonesia, will remain exempt. This exemption is likely related to local laws that require user consent for automatic price increases, but Microsoft has not confirmed this reason.

Xbox Game Pass also made significant changes to its subscription tiers this month, reorganizing them as Essential, Premium, and Ultimate. The Ultimate tier now includes Ubisoft + Classics, the Fortnite Crew subscription, and day-one access to Xbox-published games, but its new $29.99 monthly price received criticism and briefly overwhelmed the cancellation page. Xbox President Sarah Bond said the service remains profitable, reaching a record $5 billion, which reinforces its importance in Xbox’s strategy.
