ZiG cash and mobile payments win over Zimbabwe traders

Zimbabwe's new money called ZiG keeps getting more popular across the country. People use it more often for buying things and paying bills. The Reserve Bank worked hard to make sure everyone can find ZiG notes when they need them. Business owners say they like using the currency because it works better each month. Regular people also trust ZiG more because banks always have enough cash available.

Electronic payments jumped from just over one quarter of all transactions to almost half. Mobile phone banking helps people send money without carrying physical bills around. Store owners enjoy lower costs when customers pay with digital ZiG instead of cash. The payment systems work smoothly across different parts of Zimbabwe. Banks upgraded their machines to give out ZiG notes at cash machines.

Clothing trader Sarah Mbendera from Bulawayo wants banks to stock more ZiG notes everywhere. She believes consistent availability helps her business run smoother each day. Rural areas need better access to the currency for small purchases. Traders depend less on electronic systems that some people still find difficult to use. Business flows improve when customers can choose between cash and digital payments.

The International Monetary Fund noticed that ZiG exchange rates stay more stable. Official rates match street rates better than before. Inflation stays low and controlled under the new currency system. Foreign currency reserves back up all the ZiG money in circulation. Economic experts praise the careful approach the central bank takes with managing money supply.
