Zimbabwe Drivers Left Scrambling for Licence Retests

Zimbabwe wants all drivers to take new road tests. The change aims to check if people look different or need glasses since they first passed. VID official Onesimo Bumhira shared this plan at a meeting with police and transport companies. The country started using plastic driver's cards last year instead of metal ones. These new cards last five years and work across southern Africa.

Bumhira told drivers to prepare for tests before their cards expire. He said waiting until the last minute might cause problems. The VID has gone digital and updates its records daily. City planners faced questions about not having enough space for all vehicles. Police thanked bus companies for giving them a system that tracks speeding drivers. Assistant Commissioner Blessmore Chishaka said the meeting helped find ways to stop crashes and save lives. He warned bus drivers they could lose their jobs if caught breaking the rules three times. Passenger groups complained that police fail to stop unlicensed taxi drivers on the roads.
