Zimbabwe Golf Star Killed in Freak Road Crash

Professional golfer Morton Kombai died Sunday night after a car crash at Samora Machel Avenue and Seventh Street in Harare. The accident happened hours after the 2025 FBC Zimbabwe Open tournament ended. Four other golfers suffered serious injuries when their vehicle crashed. Tonderai Masunga, Biggie Chibvuri, Victor Kachepatsonga from Malawi, and Lucky Ayisa from Ghana remain stable at local hospitals. Chibvuri drove the car when the accident occurred.

Kombai played for Roland Park and lived in Zvishavane, where people knew him for his talent and humble nature. The Zimbabwe Golf Association praised his dedication to the sport in their Monday statement. He leaves behind his wife and two children. His friends and fellow players mourn his loss during this difficult time. The ZPGA community expressed deep sadness about his sudden death.

Mexican golfer Luis Carrera won the tournament with a final score of 18 under par. He shot a 68 in the final round to claim the title. Australian Austin Bautista finished second at 14 under par. Zimbabwe player Robson Chinhoi tied for seventh place with his best performance at this event. The celebration of athletic achievement ended with grief as news spread about the fatal accident.
