Zimbabwe Plans Nyazura-Mvuma Railway for Exports

The government plans to build a new railway line connecting Nyazura in Manicaland Province to Mvuma in Midlands Province. This rail link aims to help transport steel products from the Manhize Steel Plant to Beira Port in Mozambique for export. At the same time, work speeds up to improve Forbes Border Post.

Transport Minister Felix Mhona shared these plans at a ministry meeting about public companies. He talked about many projects to fix roads and rails in the area. The new railway will do more than just serve the steel plant. It will also help mining companies in Buhera District move their lithium and phosphates. The rail line should protect the roads from damage by reducing the number of heavy trucks.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa wants to see this railway link built between Nyazura and Mvuma. The plan includes fixing the rail line in Mutare to help trains run better. The ministry has worked out how to pay for a new Christmas Pass By-pass Road. This 31.5 km road will start at Grand Reef Turn-off. Trucks won't need to use Christmas Pass anymore. The project will make Forbes Border Post bigger too.

The ministry works on several other roads. They speed up the paving of the Birchenough Bridge-Murambinda Road. They push ahead with work on the Mt Selinda and Ruwangwe roads. They also plan a new bridge at Birchenough to carry heavier loads. They talk with builders about this project right now.
