Zimbabwe prepares to host COP15 on wetlands in Victoria Falls

Zimbabwe plans to welcome over 1,000 visitors from 176 countries for a major wetlands conference next summer. The government will host the 15th Conference of Parties to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands at Victoria Falls from July 23 to 31, 2025. Officials met recently to check their progress and said everything looks ready for the global event.

Environment Minister Evelyn Ndlovu told reporters that the Treasury has already sent money to cover conference costs. She praised how different government departments work together to prepare for the meeting. The minister said more than 1,000 people have signed up to attend the conference already.

Tourism Minister Barbara Rwodzi said Zimbabwe can handle all the international guests with proper hospitality. She expects the conference to help local tourism and give small businesses chances to sell their products. Hotels and tour companies around Victoria Falls are getting ready for busy times during the conference.

This marks the first time Zimbabwe hosts this important environmental meeting. Africa last held this conference 20 years ago when Uganda hosted the event. The government believes hosting the conference will show other countries that Zimbabwe can run major international events well.
