Zimbabwe Revamps Parole System for Rehabilitation

Zimbabwe wants to make its prisons better. The government plans to let some people out early if they show good behavior. This is called parole. They're changing old rules to make this work.

The Justice Ministry teams up with prison leaders to make these changes. They follow a new law about prisons. President Mnangagwa backs this plan. He told prison workers they'll get help to do their jobs well.

The old way focused on punishment. The new way helps people learn better ways to live. They want people to do well when they leave prison. The law says a special group called the State Parole Board can let people out early.

Prisoners need to show they're ready to leave. They must be good, follow rules, and work hard in prison. The board checks if someone might cause trouble outside. They want people to follow laws when they go home.

Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi talks about new places called community centers. These centers help people adjust to life outside prison. This helps solve the problem of too many people in prison.

The prison service wants to help people more. They're starting a new group to support people leaving prison. They'll get money and help to start fresh lives. They also want African prison systems to work together and share good ideas.

Prison boss Moses Chihobvu says the new law helps them teach useful skills. They want people to find jobs and go to school after prison. This makes everyone safer. People who learn skills and get help usually don't break laws again.

They think helping people fit back into normal life makes Zimbabwe stronger. When people come out of prison with new skills and support, they can help their communities grow better.
