Arsenal have grabbed Denmark midfielder Christian Norgaard from Brentford for 15 million pounds. The Gunners paid 10 million pounds up front with another 5 million pounds coming later if he plays well. The 31-year-old signed a two-year deal with Arsenal keeping him there until he turns 33. He can stay another year if both sides want him around longer. Norgaard becomes Arsenal's third summer signing after Spanish stars Martin Zubimendi and Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Norgaard captained Brentford and played 196 games for the west London club since joining from Italian side Fiorentina back in 2019. He helped the Bees get promoted from the Championship into the Premier League during 2021. The Danish midfielder made 122 appearances in England's top flight during his time at Brentford. He admitted getting almost emotional about joining Arsenal because he gets to play Champions League football. The veteran midfielder said playing in Europe's top competition was always his childhood dream.
Arsenal paid almost 60 million pounds for midfielder Zubimendi from Real Sociedad while goalkeeper Kepa cost them 5 million pounds from Chelsea. The north London club wants to sign Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres for 70 million pounds. Arsenal have also made an official approach for Chelsea winger Noni Madueke. Manager Mikel Arteta keeps spending big money to build a title-winning squad. The Gunners hope their new signings can help them challenge for major trophies.
