Barzani pretends he won Iraq's long oil war

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani praised Thursday's tripartite oil export deal as a historic achievement for Kurdish citizens. The agreement emerged from extensive negotiations between regional authorities, international energy firms, Iraq's Federal Ministry of Oil, and the State Oil Marketing Organization. Barzani credited persistent diplomatic efforts across all participating parties for reaching this milestone. Kurdish crude will resume flowing to international markets after more than a year of suspended operations.

The March 2023 export halt resulted from arbitration decisions requiring Baghdad's consent for Turkey pipeline shipments. This disruption severely damaged revenue streams for both regional and federal governments while weakening Iraq's global energy credibility. The restored export framework operates under federal supervision through the Iraq-Turkey pipeline system. Industry observers anticipate improved investor confidence and strengthened cooperation between Baghdad and Erbil moving forward.
