Brother caught in a thicket, marriage collapses in shame

A man in Makoni demanded eight cattle from his own brother after allegedly catching him with his wife. Itai Henderson told Chief Makoni's court he found his brother, Prosper Musarika, in a thicket with Henderson's wife, Priscilla. He said she is now pregnant and even tried to move in with Musarika, but was sent away by Musarika's own wife.

Musarika denied everything at first, calling the claims lies and challenging his brother to show proof. He said he only walked the woman home once as a favor. The chief warned him not to mislead the court and suggested a DNA test after the baby's birth to settle paternity.

Faced with that, Musarika changed his story. He admitted to a relationship but claimed it only started after Priscilla had already left Henderson. The court didn't buy this timeline.

Chief Makoni found Musarika guilty of adultery, saying his moral failure was severe for destroying his brother's marriage. He fined him three cattle for the adultery, the pregnancy, and for breaking a cultural taboo by being with a woman he should have protected like a daughter. Musarika also has to pay ninety dollars in court costs.
