China and Gambia get together for culture

China and The Gambia plan to share their music and arts at an upcoming friendly meet-up called the China-Gambia Bantaba. The Chinese Embassy and Gambian arts leaders talked about this event on Thursday night. They shared ideas for the cultural exchange happening on April 7, 2025, at the Chinese Embassy building in Bijilo. Both countries want to learn from each other through these casual chats and shows.

Mr. Zhao Shangsen from the Chinese Embassy told everyone that a music group named Strikeeast Percussion Ensemble will travel from China for this event. He asked many local artists to join the talks. The embassy also planned another show for April 6 at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre, giving people more chances to enjoy Chinese performances.

Hassoum Ceesay runs the National Centre for Arts and Culture and brought eight different arts groups to the meeting. He thanked the Chinese Embassy for including Gambian artists in the Bantaba and said these events help both countries share their traditions and learn new things from each other. The groups are excited about taking part in the program next week.

The idea for these cultural exchanges came from Chinese President Xi Jinping, who started the Global Civilization Initiative back in 2023. Xi believes every culture deserves respect and equal treatment. He said countries should talk openly, learn from each other, and live together without claiming one culture stands above others. The China-Gambia Bantaba puts these ideas into action by bringing people together through music, art, and friendly conversation.
