Clifford Chance reappoints Adams for a steady hand

Clifford Chance partners have voted to keep their current global leader for another four years. Charles Adams will begin his second term as the Magic Circle firm's global managing partner next spring. Since initially taking over the role in 2022, the firm has seen steady financial growth, with annual revenue climbing to two point four billion pounds under his watch. This expansion has been supported by a strategic push in the United States and the Middle East, alongside key lateral hires like private capital partner Bruce Embley from Skadden.

Adams, a Clifford Chance veteran who joined in 1992 and became a partner in 2000, previously led the firm's Continental Europe operations. The firm's global senior partner praised Adams for executing a growth strategy focused on client service and talent retention. Adams himself stated his commitment to continuing the firm's trajectory and building lasting client advantage.

This decision for leadership continuity comes even as the firm streamlines its support functions. Recent reports indicate plans to cut dozens of business services positions in London, partly due to increased automation through AI and the shifting of work to operational hubs in locations like India and Poland. Other elite UK law firms are making similar calculations, with Freshfields also re-electing its senior partner for another term while Slaughter and May recently prepared for a planned leadership transition.
