Cop Loses 718K Haul in Daylight Sondu Robbery

A General Service Unit inspector lost 718,000 shillings to armed robbers near Sondu town on Friday. The officer had collected money from a local bank to pay cooperative members for sugarcane deliveries. Three criminals blocked his motorcycle taxi at Samisbay and grabbed his cash bag at gunpoint. The inspector suffered injuries to his elbow, back, and knees during the attack. Medical staff treated him at a nearby clinic before releasing him home.

Criminals threw away two mobile phones from the stolen bag during their escape toward Kisumu. The motorcycle rider tried chasing the getaway car but failed to catch the thieves. Police detectives plan to question bank employees about the withdrawal as part of their investigation. Officers suspect the gang followed the inspector from the financial institution. Similar robberies have happened recently across Kenya after people leave banks with large amounts.

According to previous investigations, bank staff sometimes leak customer information to criminal gangs. Some thieves pose as regular customers inside banks to spot potential victims. A Nairobi man lost 7 million shillings two weeks ago after criminals trailed him. Another victim lost money on Waiyaki Way to fake traffic officers last week. Machakos robbers recently stole nearly 1 million shillings from a different bank customer.
