Court Convicts Tahiru Issah for Stealing GWL Items

A judge named Derrick Parden Eshun handed down a one-year prison term with hard labor to Tahiru Issah, a twenty-year-old man who deals in scrap metal. Issah admitted he stole several items when he appeared at the Ashaiman Circuit Court on March 5, 2025. The young man from Niger lives in the Fitter Line neighborhood near Ashaiman. Police officers spotted him during their regular night patrol on February 26, 2025, carrying a suspicious black plastic bag that looked heavy.

The officers stopped Issah immediately and checked inside his bag. They found six stopcocks, six safety valves, and one return valve worth about GHS3,250.00 belonging to Ghana Water Limited. Chief Inspector Henry Tetteh Nartey explained that police took Issah to Afienya Police Station after discovering these items. During questioning at the station, Issah confessed he had stolen everything from nearby homes.

Police charged him with theft and kept him locked up until his court date arrived. The Ghana Water Limited regional boss for Tema, Dr. Samuel Eson, thanked the court for its decision against Issah. Dr. Eson mentioned that meter thefts have caused major problems for the water company lately. These crimes hurt their ability to serve customers properly throughout the region.

Dr. Eson asked all local people to watch for suspicious behavior around water equipment and to call the police immediately if they noticed anything strange. He warned other scrap dealers against taking Ghana Water Limited property. Anyone caught stealing from the water company will face serious punishment under the law, just like Issah did.
