Dhaka dengue kill count climbs, DGHS tallies 52 dead, 13k hospitalized

Another person died from dengue fever during the past day. Health officials counted the deaths before 8 am on Wednesday. Hospitals also admitted 406 more patients who caught the mosquito-borne disease. The country has lost 52 people to dengue since the start of January. Medical centers have treated 13,594 patients with illnesses this year.

Dhaka South City Corporation areas saw the most deaths. Officials there recorded 21 people who died from the viral infection. Barishal Division came second with 14 deaths. These numbers do not count deaths inside the city corporation boundaries. The disease continues to spread across various regions.

Last year brought much worse results for the nation. Dengue killed 575 people in 2024. Doctors admitted over 101,000 patients to hospitals nationwide. The mosquito-borne illness affected many more families. The medical staff worked hard to treat all the sick people.

The year 2023 remains the worst on record. Dengue fever took 1,705 lives that year. Hospitals were filled to capacity with 321,179 patients who needed care. That deadly season shocked health workers everywhere. No other year has matched those terrible numbers.

The Directorate General of Health Services tracks these cases daily. They report new deaths and hospital admissions every morning. Doctors continue fighting the disease across Bangladesh. Mosquito control efforts try to stop the spread.
