Education Minister Unleashes Tough New Student Rules

Teachers must keep students away from their houses unless they have a good reason to visit. Schools cannot stop children from learning if their parents have not paid fees. Schools must let children come to class even if they do not have birth certificates. Girls who become pregnant can stay in school, and schools must help them feel supported.

The Education Minister, Dr Torerayi Moyo, made these new rules yesterday. He wants schools to teach children about their heritage and make sure everyone behaves well. These rules will help stop bad things like drug use, people hurting others, and bullying.

When a student has done something very wrong, the school head can tell them to stay home for 14 days. The school will look into what happened during this time. The student and their parents must have a chance to explain their side of the story before this happens.

Parents should pay school fees before term starts, but schools cannot send children away if they have not paid. The government wants every child to learn, even if their test scores are not very high. If parents cannot afford to pay for their children to go to school, the government will try to help them.

Anyone who breaks these rules might have to pay a big fine or go to jail for six months. The school head can tell a student to leave school forever if they do something very bad. Before this happens, they must talk to important people like the District Schools Inspector. Parents can write a letter to ask for their child to come back to school. They have 14 days to do this, and someone will answer them within a month.

The school must tell the most important education leader in the country when they tell a student to leave forever. They must explain exactly why they made this decision. The student can keep coming to class unless the school thinks they might hurt someone or break things.
