EFCC holds Sujimoto boss Sijibomi Ogundele as N5.7bn Enugu schools contract scandal erupts

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission obtained a magistrate court detention order against Sijibomi Ogundele, chief executive of Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited. Anti-corruption officials investigate allegations that his firm collected N5.7 billion for constructing 22 Smart Green Schools in Enugu State without completing the work. Authorities froze corporate and personal bank accounts while confiscating his international passport to prevent travel during the probe. Commission sources indicate they possess evidence of payment transfers and contract documents demonstrating his failure to meet project obligations. Investigators will arrange meetings between Ogundele and Enugu State officials as part of ongoing inquiries.

Enugu State authorities claim the contractor disappeared after receiving a 50 percent mobilization fee totaling N5.7 billion in February 2025. Government officials report that joint inspection teams found minimal construction progress at project sites one year after contract approval. State representatives accused the company of employing inexperienced workers and producing substandard work that failed structural requirements. Administrative officials reassigned the abandoned construction sites to alternative contractors who have successfully completed similar educational facility projects. Other firms awarded comparable Smart Green School contracts delivered quality results within specified timeframes.
