Emorimor vows war on Teso dropouts

The Teso cultural leader launched a campaign against school dropouts and promised to prioritize education across the region for the next decade. Emorimor Paul Sande Emolot Etomeileng spoke at his third anniversary celebration in the Bukedea district on Tuesday and urged communities to help students choose careers that lead to employment.

Speaker of Parliament Anita Among represented President Yoweri Museveni and gave 50 million shillings to support education programs while pointing to her own success as proof that learning creates opportunities. Arthur Odera from Busia County in Kenya said similar efforts reduced dropout rates among Iteso communities across the border.

The cultural leader called on education officers, local officials and religious groups to stop children from leaving school. Serere district education officer Annet Ichumar said teenage pregnancy and poverty drive most students away but expressed confidence the campaign would reverse the problem.
