Eutelsat taps Bisgaard to lead connectivity unit

Satellite operator Eutelsat just pulled a telecom exec from the shipping world for its top connectivity job. The company posted on LinkedIn a few days ago about bringing Eva Birgitte Bisgaard aboard as President of its Connectivity Business Unit. She also gets a seat on the Executive Committee. This move comes as everyone screams for more secure and resilient data links globally.

Bisgaard dragged over twenty-five years of experience across telecom and tech. She jumped ship from Maersk Tankers, where she was the Chief Commercial Officer. Over there, she handled global customer stuff and pushed digital innovation. Her duties also covered sales operations and leading decarbonization projects, which is a weird fit for satellites.

Before messing with tankers, she put in nearly twenty years at Danish telecom TDC. She held a pile of senior roles there, dealing with wholesale, business, and consumer operations. Her last gig was running the commercial side for YouSee, their consumer division. That was all over a decade ago, a lifetime in tech years.

Her new mission is to lead the whole connectivity division for Eutelsat. The idea is to use her commercial background to chase growth. Demand is supposedly spiking for high-performance links for governments, businesses, and moving vehicles like planes and ships. The timing is framed as perfect for her skill set.

Bisgaard gave a standard comment about feeling honored to join. She mentioned Eutelsat's unique spot in global connectivity. She said she wants to build a trusted, Europe-based connectivity business with the teams there. The goal is to serve enterprises and governments everywhere. It is the usual corporate speak, promising expansion without concrete plans.
