KAMPALA, Uganda—French companies plan to invest $4 billion in Uganda by 2025. The investments will focus on key sectors like water, energy, agriculture, and mining, creating jobs and building local skills.
"French companies will be the top investors in Uganda in 2025," said French Ambassador Xavier Sticker. "They will account for more than half of foreign investment."
The investments will total $4 billion over the next three years. "The companies bring jobs, skills, and trade opportunities," Sticker said. "They help Uganda create more value in its production."
French companies in Uganda already employ thousands of people. They provide 46,000 hours of training each year.
More French delegations from mining, water, and agribusiness are expected soon. They will strengthen the partnership further.
The Franco-Ugandan Chamber of Commerce has over 70 French and Ugandan companies. It helps create new investments and business opportunities.
"This partnership creates opportunities and unlocks Uganda's potential," Sticker said. "It makes Uganda stronger."
Water is a key focus. €92 million will expand access in northern Kampala, which will benefit 500,000 people.
"The trusted relationship between National Water, the Ministry of Water, the Ministry of Finance, and AFD ensures impact," said Marc Trouyet of the Agence Française de Développement (AFD).
AFD is helping Uganda become more climate-resilient. It provides affordable finance to entrepreneurs and small farmers.
AFD's work with National Water began 15 years ago with the Katosi water treatment plant. It has since funded projects like the Kagera River water treatment plant.
Agriculture is another important area. French cooperation supports projects like the "Rwenzori Mountain of the Moon IG Coffee." This benefits 11,000 producers.
"We want to help Uganda create value in agriculture," Trouyet said. "We provide tools for long-term resilience."
The Franco-Ugandan Chamber of Commerce started in 2024. It plays a key role in making connections.
"We help French investors in Uganda," said Chamber President Thomas Pelletier. We also help Ugandan companies connect with French expertise and partners.
Ugandan companies in the chamber can access 130 French chambers worldwide. This opens doors to potential investors, partners, and clients.
The chamber guides French companies through investment. It helps with registration, workspaces, and recruitment.
"We create an ecosystem where businesses can thrive," Pelletier said. "They contribute to Uganda's development."
