French star Tchéky Karyo dies at 72

French actor Tchéky Karyo died Friday at age 72 of cancer. Born in Istanbul and raised in Paris, he earned international recognition as the handler Bob in Luc Besson’s Nikita and later portrayed French detective Julien Baptiste in the crime drama The Missing and its spin-off, Baptiste. His wife, actress Valérie Keruzoré, and their children announced his passing.

Across a career that spanned nearly four decades, Karyo appeared in films such as La Balance, Joan of Arc, 1492: Conquest of Paradise, GoldenEye, and A Very Long Engagement. He received a César nomination for his debut screen role and remained active on stage before finding renewed acclaim on television. He is survived by his wife and their children.
