Fugitive in Gunjur Land Killing Caught in Cassamance

Police caught Buba Drammeh, who reportedly killed Buba Jammeh during a land fight back in 2019. The suspect ran away from Mile II prison in 2020 after being locked up for the murder that happened during land arguments between people from Gunjur plus Berending. Gambian police worked with Senegalese security teams to find him hiding across the border in Cassamance. The Senegalese Gendarmerie handed him over to Gambian officers, according to police spokesperson Momodou Musa Sissawo, who appeared on TV Wednesday night.

Law enforcement officials want everyone to know that criminals cannot hide forever from justice. The Serious Crime Unit started looking into how Drammeh managed to escape from prison custody. Police mentioned the Interior Ministry requested an investigation into the jailbreak through official channels back in December 2021. The case stems from violent clashes over territory disputes between neighboring communities. Security forces from both countries cooperated across borders to track down the fugitive. The arrest ends years of searching for the murder suspect who allegedly shot his victim during the heated land disagreement.
