A warehouse inspector from Bangladesh's Fire Service and Civil Defence died Saturday morning from severe burns sustained while battling a chemical factory blaze. Khandaker Jannatul Naeem, 37, passed away at 10 a.m. at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka. The inspector suffered burns across 42 percent of his body during the September 22 fire at Sahara Market in Tongi, Gazipur.
Three other fire service personnel have also perished from injuries received during the same incident. Firefighter Shamim Ahmed died September 23, followed by Nurul Huda the next day. Four fire service members sustained injuries while responding to the chemical plant emergency, according to official reports from the department's media division.
