Google cripples the Pixel 10 battery so it hopefully won't explode

Google expanded Battery Health Assistance to the Pixel 10 series after introducing the feature on the Pixel 9a. The system automatically reduces charging speed and voltage after 200 charge cycles to maintain battery stability. Users cannot disable this mandatory function that continues adjusting performance until reaching 1000 cycles. The company states this prevents rapid battery aging but provides no option for user control.

The forced degradation begins much earlier than natural battery wear patterns. Samsung devices typically maintain 80 percent capacity through 2000 charge cycles before significant degradation occurs. Google's approach may stem from previous Pixel 6a fire incidents that damaged property and endangered users. The company has not explained why such aggressive battery management became necessary for the Pixel 10 lineup.

Critics argue this premature battery limitation reduces device longevity without user consent. Google could implement stricter battery testing standards rather than forcing early performance reductions across all devices.
