Harare ready to host African BMX champs

Zimbabwe will host the 2025 African BMX Championships on Sunday at Mount Pleasant Cycling Club in Harare. The country welcomes this continental event for the third time in two years, building its reputation as a reliable venue. Riders from across Africa, including the Central African Republic, Sudan, Egypt, South Africa, and Côte d'Ivoire, plan to attend. The competition features age groups from four-year-olds to elite professionals, showcasing speed and skill.

Cycling Zimbabwe Secretary-General Elsie Mahumbe sees this as a chance to highlight both the sport and tourism potential. These visiting cyclists often bring family members along, increasing visitor numbers. The local federation can enter more athletes because the event happens on home soil. The Union Cycliste Internationale has organized training camps and workshops ahead of the championships, developing technical skills throughout the community.

These programs target not just riders but also coaches, mechanics, and officials. The development helps create a stronger cycling culture with proper support systems. As preparations finish at Mount Pleasant, anticipation grows for both the races and their positive impact on Zimbabwean sport.
