India, Qatar chase $10B deal as Goyal meets Al Thani

Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met with Qatari counterpart Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani on Monday in Doha to advance economic cooperation between the nations. The ministers co-chaired the India-Qatar Ministerial Joint Commission on Economic and Commercial Cooperation, and they committed to deepening partnerships in trade, investment, and strategic sectors. Goyal addressed the inaugural India-Qatar Joint Business Council meeting, and he encouraged businesses to strengthen ties through their strategic partnership.

Goyal also held discussions with Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud Al-Thani about financial cooperation. Qatar pledged to invest $10 billion in India, and the Qatar Investment Authority plans to open an office in the country following commitments made in February 2025. Both nations identified opportunities in infrastructure, manufacturing, transport, logistics, food processing, health, semiconductors, and finance for future collaboration.
