Crony capitalism is a nice way of saying "high-level corruption."

So is there high-level corruption in the Republic of Zimbabwe, yes.

And what does Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) do about it, LMAO? Nothing!

You can't arrest your boss just like any employee can't fire his own employer. Go figure!

Masimba ezvematongerwo enyika are bound to put in place cronyism regardless of any type of economic system iripo whether it's capitalism or socialism. Vamwe vevanhu vezvematongerwo enyika ava will go far and beyond to even encourage cronyism so that they can profit by giving special benefits to close friends and family members.

And this will not change any time soon as long as the negative motivations of political power remain strong in Zimbabwe. Therefore, cronyism isn't something that is solely a result of The Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front party being in power.

Best believe even if the Movement for Democratic Change party is into power they will do the same things or even worse. Politics is just a career to some folks just like teaching is.

Maybe, but I like the specificity of crony capitalism. High-level corruption comes in too many flavors.

Corruption has always been part of the human condition. In this modern era, a politician just gets so much more for the money, both in quantity and quality.

If people keep voting for fire-breathing dragons they shouldn't cry about a scorched Earth.

Let's just say the only thing humans learn from history is that they don’t learn from history.

I am just here to leave a gentle reminder for y'all to call "crony capitalism" by its proper name, "corporatism."

It's just capitalism.

All this BS about "cronyism" and "corporatism" is just people trying to distract from the failures of capitalism.

Greed, the contraction of power through monopoly, and exploiting others for personal profit has never been a sustainable model historically.

Warrior barbarism, aristocracies, feudalism, slavery, imperialism have all been failures. I don't think capitalism will have any outlying exceptions.

Capitalism and greed is good philosophy has killed far more people than communism and continue to do so to this day through neverending warfare and also kill off their own populations through limited effective access to medical care, healthy food choices, and a clean environment.

By placing profit over people, guess which one wins?

Is Zimbabwe going to be like China?

China's full name is "People's Republic of China."

They do not call themselves a democracy. I am not sure what you're talking about here. However, China is not a democracy, but China has greatly liberated its economy in order to avoid economical implosion.

Although it turns out the Chinese state can't respond well to the needs and desires of billions of people (even though they do as much as they can).

Just because they behave in a more capitalist way does not mean they're suddenly a democracy as that requires many other liberties besides economical ones.

By the way, before 1978 state workers owned essentially all means of production in China until the Open Door Policy initiated by Deng Xiaoping.

In fact, in his speech, Deng Xiaoping literary said:
"We need large numbers of pathbreakers who dare to think, explore new ways and generate new ideas."

"Otherwise, we won’t be able to rid our country of poverty and backwardness or to catch up with—still less surpass—the advanced countries."

Zanu-PF party has been in power ever since the independence of Zimbabwe in 1980.

No other political party has ever dominated politics in the Republic of Zimbabwe other than Zanu-PF, this is why it's probably safe to say Zimbabwe is a one-party state; elections are an illusion if you ask me!

In a nutshell, Zanu-PF operates like the CCP (Chinese Communist Party).

Y'all know damn right it won't be long until citizens of Zimbabwe are introduced to a social credit system -- watch this space!

Over the years there's been whispers of certain companies and individuals with close ties to the ruling party, ZANU-PF, getting preferential treatment when it comes to government contracts and licenses. And some folks reckon that government tenders and contracts are being awarded to politically connected players rather than being based on merit. That's some messed up stuff right there.

The recent trending news about money laundering and gold smuggling in Zimbabwe to evade sanctions is all one needs to know really.
