Microsoft nerfs Game Pass rewards, needs 6,000 more

Microsoft will stop accepting Rewards points for direct Xbox Game Pass purchases on Tuesday. Users discovered the policy change through social media posts sharing company statements about the program update. Subscribers must now convert points into Xbox gift cards before buying Game Pass memberships.

The conversion requires 6,000 additional points compared to previous direct redemption options. Online gaming communities criticized the adjustment after Microsoft published the announcement. Former company executive Pete Hines recently stated subscription platforms fail to compensate developers adequately. Microsoft plans to increase investment in Game Pass throughout 2025 despite concerns about creator compensation.
