Mnangagwa in deep trouble, rebels want him out

The same people who helped Emmerson Mnangagwa become president might kick him out. His final term looks shaky because former fighters support his second-in-command, Constantino Chiwenga. They want everyone to rise on March 31 against what they call widespread cheating, family favoritism, plus other bad things Mnangagwa did.

Back in 2017, Mnangagwa grabbed power when Chiwenga, then running the army, led soldiers to force Robert Mugabe out. He made big promises about fixing democracy and money problems across Zimbabwe. Those promises never came true for regular people.

Former soldier Blessed Runesu Geza leads the push against Mnangagwa. The ruling party threw him out, then charged him with crimes because he spoke up. He ran away from Zimbabwe but still works to bring different groups together for the March 31 protest day.

Mnangagwa seems scared about what might happen. He sent riot police and military troops throughout Zimbabwe because he expected citizens will shut everything down that day. The president hopes these armed forces can stop any trouble before it starts as more Zimbabweans turn against him.
