Modi govt brags 2.82 crore PMAY-G homes, 4.95 crore goal

Government statistics reveal significant progress in rural housing development through the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin program. Officials completed 2.82 crore homes from the total 4.12 crore units allocated to states and territories by August 4. The program sanctioned 3.85 crore houses during its implementation period. Union Cabinet extended the initiative for five additional years with a fresh target of 2 crore additional homes. The cumulative housing goal reaches 4.95 crore units across all phases.

Recent allocations show strong momentum in the current financial year 2025-26 with 25.6 lakh homes sanctioned from 32.9 lakh targeted units. Previous year data indicates 64.70 lakh sanctioned houses against 84.37 lakh planned constructions. Rural families receive financial support for building permanent homes with modern amenities through this scheme. Beneficiaries access clean water, cooking gas, renewable power, and construction materials via program convergence. The initiative reduces rural poverty while improving living conditions and promoting regional development.
