A Harare magistrate granted a protection order to a woman facing violence from her nephew over their family home. Theresa Maringambire accused Lianda Mairosi of vandalism, physical attacks, and daily harassment as he pressed claims to the property after his father died. Magistrate Ashton Dube affirmed her right to remain in the residence where she has spent most of her life.
Mairosi told the court that custom dictates that male relatives inherit family assets and that women should live with their husbands. He offered no proof for his counter-accusations of mistreatment.
