NPP Rejects EC's Plan for Re-Run in Ablekuma North Polling Stations

Ghana's New Patriotic Party fights back against the Electoral Commission's decision to rerun parliamentary elections. The party claims the commission lacks legal power to order fresh voting at 19 polling stations in Ablekuma North. Only courts can make such decisions under Ghana's laws. Justin Kodua Frimpong speaks for the party and calls the move wrong. He says the commission acts without proper authority.

The Electoral Commission wants to hold new elections on July 11 at these stations. Officials say they found problems with results from the earlier vote count. The NPP disagrees with this plan completely. Party leaders want the commission to finish counting votes from three other stations instead. A High Court already told the commission to complete this work back in January.

The Ablekuma North parliamentary seat remains empty after problems during the 2024 elections. Vote counting stopped when disruptions happened at polling stations. The NPP believes their candidate Nana Akua Owusu Afriyieh won the race. They say she received 34,613 votes against her opponent's 34,199. The party plans to take this fight to court if necessary.
