NUP mob busted over wrecked police truck

Ten members of the National Unity Platform face court proceedings on Friday afternoon in Lira over allegations they damaged a police vehicle and stole equipment. Authorities arrested the individuals on Monday, Oct. 28, 2025, after they allegedly attacked a Criminal Investigations Directorate patrol car on the Lira-Alebtong highway.

Police say the group vandalized the surveillance vehicle and took a laptop and a network jammer before fleeing the scene. The incident occurred as the opposition party held a campaign rally in Lira District, prompting officers to launch an overnight search that led to the arrests.

The accused remain in custody at the chief magistrate's court facility ahead of their scheduled appearance. Prosecutors plan to charge them with malicious property damage and theft related to the highway confrontation.
