NVIDIA ditches ray tracing for Battlefield 6 deal

NVIDIA launched its GeForce Game Ready driver version 581.42 on Tuesday to optimize performance for EA's Battlefield 6, which releases on Oct. 10. The driver supports DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation, Frame Generation, Super Resolution, DLAA, and Reflex technologies, but the game excludes ray tracing effects as developers prioritized performance improvements. EA credited optimization work on Xbox Series S for enhancing performance across all platforms.

The driver update also optimizes FBC: Firebreak's Breakpoint Update, which was released on Monday with support for path tracing. X4: Foundations received DLSS 4 compatibility earlier in September through its 8.00 Diplomacy update, and Alien: Rogue Incursion Evolved Edition launches on Tuesday with day-one DLSS 4 support. NVIDIA announced updates to Project G-Assist, its AI assistant that helps users optimize PC settings through voice or text commands, and posted deals on GeForce RTX 50 Series graphics cards at major retailers.
